About Father Gamache Memorial School
The school offers provincial core curriculum, enhanced by the integration of Dene teachings. Father Gamache Memorial School strives to keep the Dene language alive as it reflects Indigenous ways of thinking about the world and our dependence upon animals, plants, water and air. Many Elders from the community teach Dene protocols and respect for all living things. The school provides teacher assistants to support students with special learning or medical needs to reach their full potential.
This emphasis on educating our children in the Dene ways with learning that is relevant to their lives in the north, instills a sense of pride and belonging.
In February 2020, Connected North was launched in Father Gamache Memorial School, providing two-way connections between educational experiences that interconnect the child’s community and the world at large to help youth attain the skills, knowledge and strength to assume productive roles as adults.
Students at Father Gamache Memorial School tend to be quiet and may have their heads down (especially the older students). Please know this is not an indication of not listening. Students love and respond well to hands-on activities, especially building, painting, creating, dancing, singing and movement.
