A classroom participating in a virtual Connected North experience

Give with Purpose: Exploring How and Why

Many Northern communities across Canada lack access to the resources and support needed for young people to thrive. Connected North brings technology and interactive learning experiences into remote classrooms to connect students to opportunities not available to them where they live. There are many ways you can help support Connected North - find the type of giving that is right for you.

Connected North is a program of TakingITGlobal, a registered charity with the Canada Revenue Agency (866686991RR0001).

Why Give

Indigenous youth represent the fastest-growing cohort of young people in Canada, yet many face social, historical, economic, and geographic barriers that hinder their pathways to success, particularly for those living in rural and remote communities.

Connected North addresses these challenges by bringing technology and interactive learning experiences into remote classrooms. This initiative connects students with opportunities not available locally, including mental and physical wellness programs, arts, culture, STEM education, literacy sessions, career supports, language revitalization experiences, virtual field trips, and exposure to inspiring Indigenous role models. Led by the charity TakingITGlobal, Connected North has created a new digital model for education, with the goal of engaging students, fostering confidence, and supporting their success in both school and life.

*As a program of registered charity TakingITGlobal, eligible gifts receive a tax receipt.

Support Students

Connected North provides customized virtual content to over 35,000 students located in Northern communities. From hands-on beading classes to interactive science experiments, to career counselling, Connected North drives excitement and engagement in the classroom.

Support Teachers

Our team works closely with teachers to provide sessions that ignite greater understanding of the curriculum, and reinforce lesson planning. Crucially, Connected North also offers diverse professional development opportunities to support the on-going learning of the teachers we serve.

Access to Indigenous Role Models

At the heart of the program is the commitment to an approach that holds Indigenous perspectives at the centre of both content and process. This includes connecting students to Indigenous role models and developing culturally relevant content, reinforcing the work of Truth and Reconciliation. Presenters are offered honorariums to recognize the time they spend creating custom and impactful sessions for students.

Transform Northern Classrooms

Thanks to our world-class technology partners, including program founder Cisco Canada, Connected North brings innovative solutions into classrooms that were previously unconnected or underserved. Our team consists of technology experts who work with schools and communities to support the delivery of high-definition, interactive video into some of the world's most Northern and remote classrooms.

We also work closely with our partners to identify philanthropic and sponsorship opportunities where our goals align for the greatest impact.
