About Kisipatinahk School

Kisipatinahk School is proud to offer a quality Nêhiyawewin education to the children of Maskwacis. We serve approximately 300 students who reside on the Ermineskin, Samson, Montana, and Louis Bull Reserves.

Why does Kisipatinahk School have a paskaw mostos (buffalo) as a mascot?
Louis Bull Reserve was named after Louis Bull, the son of Noah Muddy Bull who was considered the leader of the Band. His Cree name was Askiw Mstos which some say was mistranslated as Muddy Bull. The real translation they say is Earth Bull. The Cree translation for buffalo is Paskwaw Mostos. The Kisipatinahk School would therefore have the buffalo as their symbol for their obvious connection with the name of their previous leaders.

We believe in a holistic approach to learning to meet the needs of our kiskinwahamakosowak. We provide a well-rounded, quality education that incorporates the Alberta curriculum and our Maskwacis Curriculum.
We have a priority on Maskwacisak traditions, culture, values, and language. We strive to adhere to the MESC core values of:

  • Iyiniw Mamitonehicikan
  • Nehiyaw Pimatisiwin
  • Nehiyawewin
  • Wahkohtowin
Introduction

We are in every essence a “Cree Community School”. It is our goal at Kisipatinahk School to provide a quality education that nurtures our Cree language and culture by providing effective instruction, meaningful experiences, and the opportunity for our children to develop a strong sense of Nêhiyawewin identity.
We are proud of our school and believe we are the beacon of hope that strives to build strong Cree citizens, leaders who empower others, and students who are engaged in their learning and their community.

Mission

To deliver a quality Nehiyawewin education that provides students with engaging and meaningful learning opportunities so they become Cree leaders in their school and community.
Students at Kisipatinahk School tend to be quiet and may have heads down (especially the older students). Please know this is not an indication of not listening. Students love and respond well to hands-on activities, especially building, painting, creating, dancing, singing and movement.
You can keep up with the students, teachers and staff of Kisipatinahk School by following them on Facebook.
We look forward to you connecting with our students!
